The Metropolitan Trial Court Branch 41 of Quezon City (QC) has found Mario Miguel Sanchez, former Assistant Head of the QC Department of Public Order and Safety (DPOS), guilty beyond reasonable doubt of violation of Section 7(d) of Republic Act No. 6713 (Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees).

Sanchez was convicted for unlawfully soliciting a “major prize” from the QC Ville Arboretum Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association (TODA) for the DPOS Christmas party in 2005. He was ordered to pay a fine of P5,000.00.

Under Section 7(d) of R.A. No. 6713, any public official or employee is prohibited from soliciting or accepting, directly or indirectly, any gift, gratuity, favor, entertainment, loan or anything of monetary value from any person in the course of their official duties or in connection with any operation being regulated by, or any transaction which may be affected by the functions of their office.###
