Judge Ihmie Michiko Gacad-Presto of the Metropolitan Trial Court, Branch 5, Manila, has found Walter Reynoso Sr., a Customs Operations Officer V of the Bureau of Customs, guilty of 15 counts of violation of Section 7 of the Republic Act No. 3019 (Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act).
During the hearing on 17 January 2018, Reynoso changed his plea from “not guilty” to “guilty” and affirmed to the court that he fully understood the nature of the charges against him.
The accused’s culpability stemmed from his failure to include a house and lot located in Muntinlupa City in his 1998 to 2004 Statements of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALNs), a Taurus pistol in his 2010 and 2012 SALNs, a Colt pistol in his 2012 SALN, the acquisition cost of his real properties in his 2005 to 2010 SALNs, and the real acquisition cost of his Toyota Revo VX 200 in his 2007 to 2010 and 2012 SALNs.
The court ordered Reynoso to pay the fine of P1,000.00 for each count as penalty.
Section 7 of R.A. No. 3019 requires all civil servants to file on or before April 30 of each year, a true, detailed and sworn statement of assets and liabilities, including a statement of the amounts and sources of income.
It will be recalled that in September 2017, Reynoso also pleaded guilty to 15 counts of Perjury and was sentenced to imprisonment of four months for each count. ###
