The conference aimed to unify and harmonize existing efforts in Mindanao to promote women’s role and participation in peace building and development efforts. It seeked to translate the goals and strategies set in the Framework Plan for Women, The Manila Declaration on Women, Philippine Plan for Gender Responsive Governance, and the concept of building transformative communities into tangible local initiatives for the women in Mindanao.

National Summit of Women Local Chief Executives and Legislators

The summit aims to raise awareness on issues related to gender mainstreaming and women’s participation and representation in local governance. It is also tasked to review, enhance, approve and adopt a Declaration that addresses the issues identified in major documents, such as: Framework Plan for Women, UN Millennium Development Goals, Poverty and Governance and women in Local Governance and some current gender issues and concerns for the Philippines.
